The Georgia Department of Education’s School Nutrition division is subdivided into several operating units:
Review and Technical Assistance Unit (RTAU) is responsible for the regulation and compliance of USDA’s Code of Federal Regulations as it pertains to the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, After-school Snack Program, Seamless Summer Option, and Special Provision. RTAU is responsible for certification approval, training in regulatory areas, and monitoring.
The Professional Standards and Training Unit (PSTU) is dedicated to providing training and staff development resources for local School Nutrition Directors, Managers and other School Nutrition Program staff to assure that School Food Authorities (SFAs) in Georgia are compliant with both the State of Georgia Board of Education Rules for Professional Standards and the USDA Professional Standards (as required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act
Food Distribution Unit (FDU) provides training, guidance, technical assistance, and resources for the procurement, ordering, and distribution of USDA Foods.
